Ronald Koeman has revealed he will not consider recalling Steven Bergwijn to the Netherlands squad after the player opted to move to Saudi Arabia.
Bergwijn opted for a move to Al Ittihad on Monday but Koeman believes the player’s move to Saudi Arabia at the age of 26 was more about money than football ambition.
“Georginio Wijnaldum made that move once because he had a problem at PSG,” Koeman said.
“He went there to play football until January. In Bergwijn’s case, he moved at 26, so football ambition doesn’t really exist. “
Thankfully not everyone thinks the same. I think when you’re 26 your main ambition is football, not money. But that’s the choice the player has made. “
Bergwijn will now start under the management of Laurent Blanc and will also have team-mates like N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema, Fabinho, Houssem Aouar, Predrag Rajkovic and Moussa Diaby. “
He could have stayed at Ajax, couldn’t he? And I think Ajax paid him a decent salary, but yeah, that’s the choice he has made. ” ยูฟ่าเบท http://ufabet999.app “I didn’t go through
that situation myself. I went to Barcelona and I don’t think if Bergwijn was given the chance to go to Barcelona, he wouldn’t go to Saudi Arabia.” The
move also means Bergwijn will miss out on another Netherlands call-up by Koeman.
“But for me it’s the end of the story, he hasn’t contacted me. I think he knows my feelings on that.”
