Spain’s European champions Rodri Hernandez and Alvaro Morata have been charged by UEFA following their actions during the trophy parade.

Two Spanish internationals, who were key to the tournament’s victory in Germany, have been the subject of complaints from the Gibraltar Football Association over unacceptable chants during celebrations.

During the fun scenes in Madrid, Rodri and Morata were allege to have shouted “It’s Spain, Gibraltar is Spain” at a party, leading to a complaint and subsequent investigation.

UEFA has now confirm that both players have been charge following the incident.

UEFA confirmed on Friday that it had opened an investigation into the actions of the Spanish duo.

Following the singing of chants aimed at Gibraltar during Monday’s celebrations, the Gibraltar Football Association has issued a statement condemning their behaviour.

Gibraltar is located in southern Spain, but for the past 300 years has been a British Overseas Territory.

Spain has long contested British sovereignty over Gibraltar, arguing it should be part of Spain, but the UK has long maintained control of it.

The dispute has led to tensions and incidents between Spain and the UK at sea and on land, with the UK leaving the EU complicating the situation further.

These disputes meant that the Gibraltar national football team was not recognise by UEFA until 2013 and by FIFA until 2018.
